The
Children Under the Playhouse
by Tricia Allen |
Depression-era
orphans dodge adoption and hop a freight to Texas to find their actor
uncle and be a real family again. Along the way, thirteen-year-old Gino,
his sister Allie and his best friend Marcus encounter a bag of loot,
a mysterious tycoon and his bloodthirsty henchman. Their troubles worsen
in Weathervane, Texas, when they find Uncle Angelo's playhouse boarded
up and inhabited by an eccentric who wants their uncle in jail. While
Gino tries to clear Angelo's name, he faces bank robbery charges and
a frightening confrontation with the real bandits.
|
From
The Children Under the Playhouse:
"Grifton
lunged. Gino slapped the box out of Mr. Bert's grasp. Cash and jewels
spilled everywhere. A stiff breeze sent some of the money flying.
Mr. Bert lowered himself slowly to one knee, holding the other leg
stiffly behind him, and gathered up the spilled loot. Fifty dollar
bills swirled like butterflies in the wind gusts."

The
Adventures of Sergeant Socks Book Two The Bravest Heart
by Grami and O'Pa McAdoo
|
Sarge
and Uncle Dan get stolen, but what the thief doesn't know is that two
of the boss' grandsons were hiding in the trailer's tack compartment!
Contending with bad men, a forest fire, and a hungry mountain lion,
the little colt befriends and defends a little no-name filly. Adventure
at its finest!
|
From
The Bravest Heart:
"More
horses than in the boss' herd erupted all around them. "Run," a mare neighed
as she stampeded by. "The world is burning. Everything's on fire."
A
whiff of smoke reached Sarge. "Uncle?"
"Easy, colt. Keep your wits. Eb will know what
to do."
"But he's just a boy." "Doesn't matter. Like
father like son."
The top of a tall cedar tree less than half a
furlong away burst into flames. The boy reined Dan around then looked
over his shoulder. "Oh, man! That must be what everyone's running from.
Come on, Dan, let's get out of here."
Even before the man-child's heels touched his
flank, the big horse bolted with Sarge right on his hip.

Chute
#3 by
Mackey Murdock |
|
Beyond
the gates of big-time rodeo and straight into the hearts and lives of
the remarkable characters who bring this novel to life, Chute
#3 is set in the Texas panhandle, 1970s.
The
emotions and memories it evokes wrap its readers like an old quilt.
You laugh, you'll cry, and be sorry it's over at the end!
The
award-winning novel is Mackey Murdock's first published fiction.
|
From Chute #3:
"His
elbows rested on the chute's top railing, supporting most of his weight.
Pepper straightened, raised his ears, and Guthrie relaxed his arms.
His weight settled in the saddle. He pulled his right rein hard toward
his chest and moved his spurs forward in front of the horse's shoulder.
He ducked his chin, leaned slightly backward, then hollered out of the
side of his mouth. "Turn him loose.""
Praise
for Chute #3:
"Brush
the stable litter from between the pages and join Murdock and his rodeo
and cowboy pals. Fractures and sprains pave the road to prize money,
and today, maybe, the poker chips will slide south. Authentic."
- John S. McCord, author of Walking Hawk
and The Baynes Clan series
"Mackey
Murdock spins a yarn rich in character and subtle humor. His smooth
Texas style reads like a tale told ‘round the campfire. You can almost
hear the drawl."
- Lori Torrance, author of Elvis in Texas:
The Undiscovered King
