Mackey Murdock

CHUTE #3, an award-winning novel, is Mackey Murdock's first published fiction, but two non-fiction titles preceded it, both from the Republic of Texas Press - see below. All are available online or at brick and mortar stores as well. And be watching for BLOOD FOR BROTHER from Golden West Publishers, scheduled for release early 2005.

Reared in Texas at an end-of-the-road country store where people made one stop to buy tobacco, chicken feed, flour, and bolt material, Murdock finally made it to town and now resides in Garland, Texas. Along the way he taught school, served in the Navy, and spent thirty-four years in corporate management.

Sitting downwind from early retirement gives him an opportunity to realize a life-long dream, writing. His fans are glad for it! If you love the way Mackey Murdock turns a phrase and would like to own more titles from this Texas son, ask for:

Last Of The Old Time Texans: Published in 2000 by the Republic of Texas Press.
Told in their own voices by the builders of our state, this book is an enlightening account of life at the beginning of the twentieth century when it was lived and enjoyed with only the essentials. Their stories of hardships, triumphs, and everyday living are gathered and told with great warmth and respect, and a precious piece of history is lovingly preserved in the interviews with these turn-of-the-century Texans. Murdock's style is like sitting down and visiting with your grandparents - or great grandparents.

The Forgotten War: Texas Veterans Remember Korea: Published in 2001 by the Republic of Texas Press
Coming of age in the early 1950s meant for a generation of young Texans following the leadership of their World War II mentors into the terrible face of war. Their innocence was shattered on the ugly terrain of pain and disillusionment that was Korea. They became battle- hardened and worldly wise as only men who march to hell and back can be. A half-century has passed since that conflict. The Forgotten War applauds the sacrifices of the fighting men without questioning politics or attempting to sway history's perspective of that period.
